Prison Program
Our Rise Above It Prison Program has been taught in correctional institutions and transitional centers since 1991. Over the years it has taken on a variety of approaches depending upon the venue in which it is offered, the preferences of the leader, and the needs of the inmates being served. It has been taught by prison instructors as an academic course (under the Pell Grant), as a spiritual rehabilitation program led by prison chaplains, and as an addictions recovery program taught by counselors specializing in drug and alcohol related problems.
Regardless of the setting or the particular modifications in the program, the course follows the basic format of the Ten Commandments, translating spiritual principles into lessons for daily living—even in prison.
